Crinoid Canyon sits inside Horseshoe Bay on the southeastern flank of Nusa Kode, a small island tucked into the deep south of Komodo National Park. It is roughly a 4–5 hour cruise from Labuan Bajo (LBJ), which is why the site is almost exclusively reached by liveaboard rather than day boat. The bay is a natural amphitheatre of dive sites — Crinoid Canyon shares the water with Cannibal Rock, Yellow Wall and Torpedo Alley — and the southern position means colder, plankton-rich water rolling up from the Indian Ocean. That upwelling is the whole story here: it drops visibility but explodes the reef with filter-feeding life.

Best Time to Dive Crinoid Canyon
South Komodo has its own rhythm. The prime window is the dry season, April to November, when the park is open and seas are settled. Within that, July to September is peak and also the coldest and most productive in the south — the upwelling that feeds Crinoid Canyon is strongest, so critter density peaks. October–November brings warmer, slightly clearer water and is superb for macro photography.
