Yes, a Komodo liveaboard is perfect for non-divers. You snorkel with manta rays at Manta Point, meet Komodo dragons on Rinca, hike Padar Island, and swim Pink Beach — all without a dive certification. Since 2015 we have run non-diver and mixed-group liveaboards from Labuan Bajo starting at IDR 3.55M per person.
Most people assume a Komodo liveaboard is only for scuba divers. It is not. Komodo National Park is one of the rare destinations where the best experiences — dragons, manta rays, cinematic viewpoints and pink-sand beaches — happen above or just below the surface. As a specialist Komodo liveaboard operator running these waters since 2015 and part of the Komodo Luxury group, we design itineraries specifically for snorkelers, families, couples and photographers who want the yacht life without ever putting on a regulator.
Why a Komodo Liveaboard Works for Non-Divers
The park’s headline animals are not deep-water animals. Reef manta rays feed in 3–8 metres of water at Manta Point and Manta Alley, easily seen while snorkelling on the surface. Komodo dragons are a land experience on Rinca and Komodo islands. The most Instagrammed view in Indonesia — the three-bay panorama from Padar Island — is a 30-minute morning hike. A liveaboard simply becomes your floating hotel, moving you between these sites overnight so you wake up already anchored at the next highlight.
- Snorkel Manta Point & Manta Alley — glide above reef mantas up to 4m wingspan in shallow, current-managed drifts.
- Komodo dragons up close — guided ranger treks on Rinca (short loop) or Komodo island.
- Padar Island sunrise hike — the iconic three-coloured-bay viewpoint, no fitness barrier.
- Pink Beach — one of only a handful of pink-sand beaches on Earth; swim and snorkel the coral shelf.
- Kalong Island flying foxes — thousands of fruit bats streaming over the mangroves at dusk.
- Kanawa & Taka Makassar — sandbar swimming, paddleboarding and reef snorkelling.
Sample 3D2N Non-Diver Itinerary
| Day | Morning | Afternoon / Evening |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Depart Labuan Bajo (LBJ), snorkel Kanawa Island reef | Rinca Island dragon trek, sunset at Kalong bat island |
| Day 2 | Padar Island sunrise hike, Pink Beach snorkel & swim | Manta Point snorkel drift, overnight at Gili Lawa |
| Day 3 | Gili Lawa summit walk, Taka Makassar sandbar | Snorkel Siaba turtles, return to Labuan Bajo by 2pm |
Divers and non-divers can share the same boat comfortably. On mixed departures, certified guests dive sites like Batu Bolong, Castle Rock, Crystal Rock and The Cauldron (Shotgun) while non-divers snorkel the shallows or relax on deck — everyone reunites for dragons, Padar and Pink Beach. What’s Included & What to Know
- All snorkelling equipment, mask, fins and life vests provided free.
- English-speaking cruise guide plus licensed park ranger for dragon treks.
- Full-board dining, fresh grilled seafood, vegetarian on request.
- Shaded sundeck, air-conditioned cabins on deluxe vessels, freshwater showers.

You do not need Advanced Open Water for any non-diver activity. That certification is only recommended for divers tackling the strong-current north sites like Castle Rock and Crystal Rock. Snorkelling sites are chosen daily around tide and current for safety. Peak season is July–September; the dry season (April–November) delivers the calmest seas and best water clarity for surface encounters.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I do a Komodo liveaboard if I don’t dive? Absolutely. All the signature experiences — Komodo dragons, Padar hike, Pink Beach and manta snorkelling — need no dive certification. Snorkel gear and guides are included, and non-swimmers are supported with life vests.
Will I still see manta rays without scuba? Yes. Reef mantas feed in 3–8m of water at Manta Point and Manta Alley, so snorkellers routinely swim right above them. July–September is prime manta season with the clearest visibility.
How much does a non-diver liveaboard cost? Shared cabins start at IDR 3.55M per person for 3D2N, rising to IDR 6.5M–12.5M on deluxe boats. Private charters run IDR 52M–280M. Add IDR 650,000 park entry per person and fly into Labuan Bajo.
How do I book and pay? Contact us on WhatsApp with your dates. We confirm availability against the daily park quota, hold your cabin with a 50% deposit, and collect the balance 14 days before departure.
